SWLOR routes most player chat through custom logic: emote splitting, languages, ranges, and special rules for party and “Holonet” shouts.
Messages starting with // or (( are treated as OOC and are not translated; they cannot be sent on the Holonet/shout channel.
Dead characters cannot send normal chat unless the line starts with / (commands).
The shout chat volume is treated as the in-character Holonet: it can reach all players who have Holonet visibility enabled, plus DMs.
Interact with a HoloNet terminal placeable to open a UI, type a broadcast (up to 600 characters), and pay 2,500 credits to send it. When configured on the server, the same submission can forward to a Discord webhook; online players also see a colored broadcast line in game. If the webhook URL is not configured, the UI reports an error and the broadcast does not go out.
HoloCom is a directed call system between characters (voice/chat routing to a hologram stand-in). Use /endcall to end an active call, cancel a ringing attempt, or clear stuck state (also listed under Chat commands). HoloCom state is cleaned up on death and disconnect.
Send-to-DM uses the DM channel and echoes locally. Typing indicators can appear when the chat bar is focused. See Chat commands for slash commands, languages, and macros.
Server rules may restrict how communication tools are used in PvP or cross-region RP; see the official rules and Staff rulings as applicable.
