This is a combined guide for any form of conventional physical fitness training. When one of these Expertises is taken, a choice must be made between the options available, which include:
- Agility Training: Increasing one's overall speed, coordination, and precision of movement, in and out of combat.
- Strength Training: Increasing one's physical strength, muscle mass, and the techniques associated with generating and applying leverage and using muscle groups effectively, allowing them to lift and move heavier loads, hit harder, and resist more force.
Other options may be taken if requested and approved - such requests should make sense and follow the general progression logic outlined here.
Each point in a Fitness Training expertise represents an increase in a character's capacity with a particular physical attribute beyond the norm of an average person as well as a general increase in their overall physical health, stamina, and endurance, and can be assumed to coincide with a working knowledge of exercise practices. This expertise CANNOT advance a character's physical abilities beyond what is naturally possible for their species at peak performance (but some slight liberties may be taken given that this is not a strictly realistic setting). Combining fitness training with other expertise lines that enhance physical capabilities is allowed.
- Acrobat (Agility Training 1) - A particular focus on mobility and technique in motion.
- Bodybuilder (Strength Training 1) - Shows dedication to working on muscle groups for maximizing bulk and physical appearance, but not necessarily functional strength or endurance.
No Points: Your physical capabilities can be assumed to be about on par with an average athletic person's level of fitness, if not slightly above. You're no olympic sprinter or competition weightlifter, but you can move with a reasonable degree of speed and precision, and handle heavy loads passably well if need be.
1 Point: You've put particular effort into improving your physical fitness in one way or another.
- Agility: You're a fair bit quicker and more flexible than the average person thanks to regular exercise beyond the usual. Maybe you do yoga or Pilates regularly, or take dance classes. You'll outrun the average person without too much trouble, and might surprise people in a fight with your movement.
- Strength: You've got some muscle on you, and others might notice. You probably go to the gym regularly, or have some other method of maintaining your strength. If you hit someone, they definitely feel it - and you're probably on people's mind if they need someone to help them move a couch.
2 Points: You're now quite notably above an average person in your chosen method of physicality. You could instruct others capably in their own efforts.
- Agility: You're fast, and you move very well. You could be a track and field athlete, or a gymnast, or do any number of other sports with great success. Your flexibility and athleticism are extremely useful, and you can dodge most swings easily.
- Strength: There's no question about it, you're buff. You'd get hired as a Bouncer in no time, and any wise gym bro would be glad to have you spotting them. You can lift impressive amounts of weight and carry heavy loads with ease for a surprising amount of time. You can probably take out the average person in one good punch if you have to, and even tougher opponents won't look forward to a blow from you when you can crack bones and ribs without much effort.
3 Points: If you wanted to, you could participate in sector-wide competitions and win. You're a paragon of fitness. You'd make a killing selling guide videos and courses.
- Agility: Speed is your middle name. Even if you're not the strongest around, you can duck and weave and wind yourself through a fight like a snake and outrun almost anyone.
- Strength: People definitely think you take steroids, even if you don't. You are RIPPED. You could take down an armored soldier with your bare hands - the armor would be fine (probably), but their bones and soft tissue would not. You can lift a person like a toy and throw them like one too.
3☆ (Mastery): This is it - the peak of physical achievement for your species. You're there. To go any further would take outside assistance of some sort, be it chemical, cybernetic, or the Force. You could threaten the titles of the most accomplished athletes of your field in the galaxy.
- Agility: You are like lightning, like water, like a leaf on the breeze. Landing a hit on you is probably one of the most frustrating challenges someone's ever had, and you run like the wind. You move as quickly as your body can physically manage, and can probably astonish people with your sheer flexibility.
- Strength: Brick houses are built like YOU. You hit like a truck, a freight train, you name it - you can dent metal, leave imprints in brick and concrete, crack personal armor plating. You almost certainly hold some form of weightlifting record, officially or not. You've got the kind of strength normally attributed to monstrously strong villains in holovids. If the galaxy's normal construction materials weren't so sturdy, you'd be living in a world of cardboard.
