Shields are a defensive item that can be equipped to the off-hand while unarmed or using a one-handed weapon. Shields increase HP and defenses while granting a variety of bonuses based on your Shield Perks. Shields offer a great additional boost to survivability and even utility, such as allowing you to daze enemies with the Shield Bash Perk and helping you regenerate Force Points or Stamina during fights to allow you to perform more actions.
Shields, like heavy armor, double your casting time for Force Powers. This can be somewhat mitigate by placing your shield on your hotbar and toggling it before and after casting, leaving you more vulnerable but allowing you to get those emergency heals off before someone goes down.
