Cloaks are a general armor type that occupies the back slot. Cloaks can be either heavy or light armor. Heavy armor offers higher defense and HP while light armor offers better Stamina or Force Point pools and regeneration respectively, depending on which line of light armor is chosen. If players feel their defense is too low or they lack their desired resource pool is too low or not recharging fast enough during combat to be effective, they may wish to mix and match heavy and light armor pieces to get the desired results. General armors like this are ideal for mixing and matching, as they do not require extra SP investment or a respec to try mixing and matching.
Also of note, general armors (Belts, Cloaks, Rings, and Necklaces) do not double your casting time of Force Powers like other heavy pieces do, allowing you to raise your defense some without losing out on too much utility or FP/Stamina and their regens.
