Each player should know their best offensive mastery and best defensive mastery before play begins (if any. Don't worry, brand-new characters can still achieve goals)
A single mastery cannot count as both offensive and defensive.
Movement is measured in event squares, not normal grid-combat facing. The DM/QM will show the map scale in play.
To attack: Specify the target, roll d20, then state the final roll and applicable bonuses in party chat before emoting the attack.
Your character must have line-of-sight to the target at the moment of the attack. Exception: Devices mastery slotted as offense.
A character can conduct a single attack at any stage during their move. Ie they can move, attack, then move the rest of their allowed amount.
They can target any opponent in same square or adjacent orthogonally (not diagonally).
If you have a ranged weapon in hand, or Devices/Lightning/TK/Throw mastery slotted in offense, they can attack at upto range 3, measured orthogonally. Line-of-sight restriction remains (except for Devices)
The best offensive mastery is added directly to the attack result and is subtracted from the hostile target's HP.
The best defensive mastery is subtracted from incoming damage as direct mastery DR.
One other form of DR may be added to mastery DR. Eg shield plus kneeling applies only one relevant DR.
NPC's will have hp totals displayed in-game. They will typically roll 1d10 for damage. Named Elites will typically roll 1d20 and are much more dangerous.
Characters reduced to 0 HP are out of the scene or suffer the DM/QM-declared event consequence. Any lasting outcomes will be declared by DM/QM before event start.
Damaging actions are represented by attack, for sake of this being a Quick ruleset. A PC can attempt an action that does not inflict damage on a target in place of Attack.
Example: Heal. Roll 1d10 (+any relevant Healing mastery ranks), restores that amount of health to one PC, including recovering from 0 HP if allowed by DM/QM for that event.
Setup Template
We are using Intrepid Quick Event Combat. PC HP is 25. Declare one offensive and one defensive mastery before the first round.
